We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) to lead our Information Security, Data Governance, IT Risk Management, and Cybersecurity functions in line with Bahrain's regulatory and legal framework. Reporting to the executive leadership and interacting directly with the Board, this role will oversee compliance with the Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) Rulebook (Volume 5), relevant cybersecurity modules, and data protection requirements under Bahrain Law No. 30 of 2018 (Personal Data Protection Law – PDPL).

The CISO will also lead a team that includes the Data Protection Officer (DPO) and the Head of IT Security & Audit to ensure security resilience and regulatory readiness across our fintech operations.

The ideal candidate brings a strong background in cybersecurity, regulatory compliance, and data protection, particularly within the fintech or financial services sector. Prior experience interfacing with the CBB and leading certification efforts (e.g., PCI-DSS, ISO 27001) in Bahrain or the GCC is essential.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute the company-wide information and cybersecurity strategy aligned with business priorities and the CBB's requirements.
  • Lead and develop the InfoSec team, including the DPO and Head of IT Security & Audit.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory authorities such as the Central Bank of Bahrain, external auditors, and PCI assessors on all matters related to cybersecurity and compliance.
  • Advise executive management and the Board on cyber risk and IT governance.

Information & Cyber Security

  • Establish, maintain, and enhance policies and technical controls in line with global best practices (PCI-DSS, ISO 27001, NIST).
  • Manage threat detection, vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and incident response protocols.
  • Oversee real-time security operations, incident forensics, and business impact analysis for any breaches or threats.

Regulatory Compliance & Certification

  • Ensure ongoing compliance with:
  • CBB Rulebook Volume 5, including Module RM: Risk Management and HC: High-Level Controls.
  • Bahrain PDPL (Law No. 30 of 2018).
  • PCI-DSS requirements for secure payment processing.
  • ISO 27001 or similar global security frameworks.
  • Lead audit readiness and certification renewals, including coordination with Qualified Security Assessors (QSAs).
  • Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, and IT teams to ensure company-wide adherence to cybersecurity and data protection standards.

Governance & Risk Management

  • Define and oversee the Information Security Governance Framework, reporting directly to executive leadership and the Board.
  • Conduct IT and third-party risk assessments, including vendor onboarding and offboarding checks.
  • Own and regularly test the company's IT disaster recovery and business continuity plans (DR/BCP) with a focus on cyber-resilience.
  • Maintain a risk register for all security-related exposures, with action plans for mitigation.
  • Build and promote a security-first culture across the organization through awareness campaigns and training.
  • Coach and mentor internal teams to strengthen capability, resilience, and audit readiness.
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration to proactively address security and compliance risks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Security, or a related field; Master's preferred.
  • Recognized certifications: CISSP, CISM, CISA, ISO 27001 Lead Auditor/Implementer, PCI-DSS QSA/ISA.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in information security or IT risk, with 5+ years in leadership roles.
  • Deep understanding of Bahrain's regulatory environment, especially the CBB Rulebook and PDPL.
  • Proven track record managing cybersecurity and compliance functions within a regulated financial or fintech environment.
