Context

Since 1971, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has supported Bahrain's development journey, aligning its work with national priorities such as the Economic Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy. As a Net Contributor Country (NCC), Bahrain fully finances UNDP's presence, demonstrating strong national ownership. In collaboration with the Bahrain Center for Strategic, International, and Energy Studies (Derasat), UNDP Bahrain is now leading the development of the 2026 National Human Development Report (NHDR), focused on digital transformation. This report will assess the impact of digitalisation on human development and provide evidence-based policy recommendations to support inclusive and sustainable digital growth aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Description of Duties

The National UN Volunteer Specialist will assist with the development and implementation of the NHDR by:

  • Conducting research and data analysis, including assessments like the RIA, DMA, DRA, and AIA.
  • Supporting the drafting of thematic reports, case studies, and best practice reviews.
  • Coordinating stakeholder consultations, workshops, and validation meetings.
  • Facilitating engagement with government, private sector, civil society, and academia.
  • Providing logistical and administrative support for project activities and events.
  • Assisting in the development of communication materials, including press releases and social media content.
  • Supporting progress tracking, reporting, and risk log updates.

Profile Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in digital technologies, information systems, social sciences, or a related field (Master's is an asset).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in research, project coordination, or public policy, especially in digitalisation.
  • Familiarity with the SDGs and digital transformation frameworks.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office; experience with international organizations is an advantage.
  • Working knowledge of English and Arabic required.
