Assistant driller

Assistant Driller is typically responsible for supporting the drilling operations on a site, working under the direction of a Driller or Rig Manager. This role involves a combination of mechanical, technical, and safety-related tasks to ensure that drilling activities proceed efficiently and safely. Key Responsibilities: Drilling Operations Support: Assist in operating drilling equipment and machinery, including but not limited to pumps, hoists, and blowout preventers (BOP). Help monitor and control the drilling process, ensuring that the well is drilled according to the drilling plan and specifications. Perform rig-up and rig-down activities, assisting in the assembly and disassembly of drilling equipment. Safety and Compliance: Ensure adherence to all safety policies and regulations, ensuring that all activities comply with company and industry standards. Conduct routine inspections of equipment and machinery to identify any potential hazards or malfunctions. Assist in implementing safety drills and emergency procedures. Maintain a safe and clean working environment, including ensuring proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Assist in the maintenance of drilling equipment and machinery, including troubleshooting and addressing minor repairs. Help manage the maintenance and storage of tools and equipment. Participate in routine inspections and preventive maintenance schedules to avoid equipment breakdowns. Work closely with the Driller, Rig Manager, and other crew members to ensure efficient and effective drilling operations. Communicate effectively with the team to ensure that everyone is aware of their tasks and any changes to operations. Provide direction and supervision to junior crew members or trainees. Documentation and Reporting: Assist in logging operational data, including depth, pressure, and other critical parameters during drilling. Document any issues or anomalies during the drilling process for later analysis and reporting. Qualifications: Education: High School diploma or equivalent. A technical certification or degree in a related field (e.g., drilling, mechanical, or petroleum engineering) is a plus. Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, with experience on drilling rigs. Prior experience in a drilling crew, as a roustabout, floorhand, motorman & derrickhand. Skills: Understanding of drilling operations and equipment. Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of safety regulations and practices in the oil and gas industry. Ability to work in harsh and demanding environments, often in remote locations. Ability to work as part of a team and under pressure. Certifications: Well Control Certification (e.g., IWCF or IADC)H2 S Awareness Training First Aid/CPR Certification As required by the company. Physical Demands: Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and materials. Ability to work in confined spaces, and at heights. Ability to work long hours in harsh weather conditions, including night shifts. Physically fit to handle the demands of drilling rig work, including extended periods of standing, walking, and manual labor. Working Conditions: Work is typically performed in a field environment, such as on a land rig, or other remote locations. The role involves irregular hours, shift work, and long rotations (e.g., 4 weeks on, 4 weeks off). The job may require travel to remote sites and working in challenging weather conditions.
