Sanding Technician

**Job Title**:Technician

**Job Purpose**:To ensure the production process is in accordance with the safety and quality standards of the Company and given instructions.

**Primary Duties Performed**:

- Ensure the required materials, work stations and machines are available and ready for use.
- Categorise shells based on their complexity and processes in order to estimate the amount of material, machines and labour required.
- Maintain communication regularly with the Hand Lamination department on the shells to be received for further processing.
- Add putty to the shells and dispatch to the sanding machine.
- Forward the shells to the Quality Controller to ensure high quality standards.
- Stack finished products in trolleys for further processing by the Painting Department.
- Promptly inform the relevant Departments of changes to current production schedules if any.
- Prepare daily the schedule of production and monitor the progress of operations to ensure adherence to the schedule.
- Train and guide staff to ensure the quality of work and productivity of staff within the function are achieved to support and grow the business.
- Perform assignments and/or duties that relate to the field of competence as may be directed from time to time by the Head of Production.
- Set and operate sanding machines for smoothening and finishing surfaces to ensure all helmets are made according to the specifications and requirements.
- Ensure the required materials, work stations and machines are available and ready for use.
- Select the grade of sand paper according to the degree or smoothness and finishing required.
- Mount, position and control helmets in sanding machines using hand tools.
- Complete the assigned operations within the given timeframe and according to the specifications.
- Observe machine operations to detect any problems, and report all defects in materials or machines to the team leader immediately.
- Inspect and measure finished products to determine conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments.
- Stack finished products in trolleys for further processing.
- Promptly inform the relevant departments of changes to current production schedules if any.
- Perform assignments and/or duties that relate to the field of competence as may be directed from time to time by the Head of Department.

**Qualifications and Experience Required**:

- Should be conversant with equipment and machines used by the company.
- Able to communicate in written and spoken English.
- Strong interpersonal and analytical skills.
- Able to work as per standard operating procedures and under pressure to meet targets.
- Problem solving/decision making abilities.
- Self-motivated and performance driven.
- Willing to perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
- Ability to work within a team environment.
- Ability to work safely around power equipment.
- Must be able to read and understand written and verbal work orders; follow detailed instructions
- Requires hand/finger dexterity; visual acuity; ability to lift/carry/move items; ability to stand for extended periods of time in an area with limited climate control.
- Ability and willingness to learn.
