Radiology Technician

**Duties & Responsibilities**:
**Function**

The General Radiology Technician takes and processes X-ray images to the best quality.

He/she works directly under the Coordinator of the Radiology Department and takes the images that the physicians specifically order.

He/She participates actively in relevant hospital /department quality Improvement activities.

**Meets Patients and takes Images**

He/she meets with the patients individually and prepares them for the procedure by explaining the exam process and positioning the patients in the machine so that the correct body parts are examined, as well as shielding the rest of the body from radiation exposure.

Once the patient is in position, he adjust the machine to take the best images and inserts the X-ray image detectors. After taking the X-rays, they remove the detectors and process the images.

**Keep Medical Records**

In addition to taking radiology films, techs are responsible for keeping and maintaining accurate patient radiology records.

**Maintain Equipment**

He/she must also be familiar with the equipment enough to make any necessary adjustments and know when it needs repairs. He/she may also evaluate equipment purchases.

**Advanced Imaging**

He/she can become certified in more advanced imaging procedures, such as taking fluoroscopies, MRIs (magnetic resonance images), CT (computed tomography) scans and mammograms. For these images, a physician may order him/her to administer contrast material to the patient to enhance the anatomical features.

**5.0** **Education**:
High School and Diploma or Degree in Radiology.
