**Job Summary**
A Structural Fitter in the oil and gas industry is responsible for fabricating, assembling, and installing structural steel components to support the construction and maintenance of oil and gas facilities, such as pipelines, platforms, refineries, and rigs. This role involves interpreting blueprints, cutting, fitting, and welding metal components, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. Structural Fitters play a critical role in ensuring the strength and integrity of structures in high-risk environments.
**Key Responsibilities**
- **Blueprint Reading**: Interpret detailed engineering drawings, diagrams, and blueprints to fit and assemble structural components.
- **Fabrication and Assembly**: Cut, align, and assemble metal pieces or structural steel components using hand tools, power tools, and heavy machinery.
- **Welding and Fitting**: Perform tack welding, grinding, and other fitting operations to prepare and fix materials in position.
- **Inspection and Testing**: Inspect fabricated components for accuracy, quality, and compliance with specifications. Make adjustments as needed to meet standards.
- **Installation**: Assist in the safe and efficient installation of structural steel components on-site, ensuring proper alignment and stability.
- **Tools and Machinery**: Operate oxy-acetylene torches, grinders, saws, shears, and other tools required for fabrication and assembly.
- **Safety Compliance**: Follow all safety protocols and wear personal protective equipment (PPE) to mitigate workplace hazards.
- **Collaboration**: Work closely with engineers, welders, scaffolders, and other tradespeople to complete projects on schedule.
- **Documentation**: Maintain records of work completed, materials used, and any deviations from plans.
