Laboratory Technologist

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**:
Performs a full range of clinical laboratory tests and examinations in all sections of the laboratory.

Collects blood specimens from the patients, evaluates specimens received to determine suitability for testing and notifies the physicians or nurses of the rejected specimens.

Ensures that the laboratory tests and procedures are properly entered “on-line” in the Medinous and billed accordingly to the patient by the Reception / ADT / Insurance staff.

Prepares, double checks and logs all the specimens for send-out to the Reference Laboratory.

Prepares and double checks all the necessary documents pertaining to Blood Transfusion and coordinates with SMC Blood Bank for the blood requests.

Processes specimens in the assigned section, checks and enters the results in the Hospital Management Information System.

Provides clerical support including processing incoming and outgoing lab reports, making copies, maintaining and organizing filing systems.

Follows established lab procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, reporting and maintains records of patients’ results.

Assists the Sr. Technician / Lab Supervisor in performing scheduled maintenance of the lab instruments in their assigned section.

Performs basic Quality Control procedures and notifies the Sr. Lab Tech /Lab Supervisor of any problems and corrective actions taken.

Participate Actively in relevant hospital /department quality Improvement activities.

Follows and regularly practices the Lab Safety procedures.

Performs other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Sr. Lab Tech / Laboratory Supervisor / Laboratory Coordinator.

**Education and Qualifications**

Degree in the field of Medical Technology

5.2 Minimum 3 years’ experience

**Salary**: From BD300.000 per month
