Computer Science Lab Technician

The lab technician will play a crucial role in supporting the technical operations of computer science laboratories. You will assist faculty, researchers, and students in conducting experiments, programming tasks, and troubleshooting computer systems and software. Your expertise and assistance will contribute to the smooth functioning of the labs and enable effective teaching, learning, and research in computer science.

**Duties and Responsibilities include**:

- Set up and maintain computer hardware, software, and network infrastructure in the computer science labs.
- Install and configure operating systems, development environments, and software tools used in computer science education and research.
- Ensure all computers and peripherals are functioning properly, performing regular maintenance and troubleshooting as necessary.
- Provide technical assistance and guidance to faculty, researchers, and students using the computer science labs.
- Assist in resolving hardware, software, and network-related issues encountered by lab users.
- Troubleshoot programming problems, debugging code, and helping students understand programming concepts.
- Enforce security measures in the computer science labs, including user authentication, data backup, and protection against malware.
- Monitor and manage access controls to ensure the integrity and privacy of lab resources and data.
- Collaborate with IT staff to implement security updates, software patches, and antivirus measures.
- Assist in the procurement and inventory management of computers, peripherals, software licenses, and lab supplies.
- Maintain accurate documentation of lab procedures, configurations, and troubleshooting guides.
- Develop instructional materials and conduct training sessions for lab users on software tools, programming languages, and lab protocols.
- Assist faculty in designing and implementing lab assignments, projects, and assessments.
- Perform other duties as reasonably required by management.

**Requirements**:
**Qualifications and Experience required**:

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Professional certification in a related field is desirable.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience, preferably in an academic or higher education setting.

**Skills and Competencies required**:

- Strong understanding of computer systems, programming languages, and software tools commonly used in computer science.
- Familiarity with network configurations, security protocols, and data management principles.
- Commitment to staying updated with emerging technologies and advancements in computer science.
- Ability to work independently and responsibly while managing numerous projects simultaneously.
