Technical Leadership Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Manager to lead our team in adapting products to automotive and industrial requirements.

  • This role involves growing and leading a team of dedicated engineers who will represent Canonical and Ubuntu in the industrial and automotive communities and standards consortia.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring our Linux distribution and products support standards related to processes, cybersecurity, and safety.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Work with Product Management to refine the vision and strategy for automotive at Canonical.
  2. Define and execute an engineering roadmap for the automotive team.
  3. Represent Ubuntu and Canonical in the automotive community, including customers, partners, and consortia.
  4. Lead our Linux distribution and open source software strategy in automotive.
  5. Build and lead a globally distributed team of engineers, guiding and overseeing their work.
  6. Develop skills through coaching, feedback, and hands-on technical leadership.
  7. Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.
  8. Advocate for and implement modern, agile software development practices.
  9. Develop and promote excellent engineering and organizational practices.

Requirements:

  • Strong background in software engineering, Linux, and open source.
  • In-depth knowledge of Linux packages and embedded development.
  • Familiarity with automotive and industry standards such as ISO21434, ISO26262, SOTIF, IEC 61508.
  • Experience in C/C++ and Python programming.
  • Practical experience in automotive domains, including functional safety, embedded systems, and cloud software trends.
  • Leadership experience in managing, coaching, and mentoring software developers.
  • Track record of delivering high-quality software on time.
  • Passion for developing and growing people.
