Position Title: Scientific Exploration & Environmental Guide
Reports To: Academic Program Director
Role Overview
The Scientific Exploration & Environmental Guide is responsible for leading learners in hands-on scientific inquiry and environmental education. This role combines laboratory-based science with field-based ecological exploration, encouraging curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving in real-world contexts.
Key Responsibilities
1. Instruction & Program Delivery
- Facilitate sessions in biology, chemistry, physics, and environmental science.
- Design and supervise practical experiments, fieldwork, and data collection activities.
- Encourage scientific thinking, hypothesis testing, and evidence-based conclusions.
2. Environmental Learning
- Lead learners in exploring local ecosystems, sustainability practices, and conservation projects.
- Teach concepts of ecology, climate science, renewable resources, and biodiversity.
- Organise outdoor expeditions, such as nature walks, water testing, or wildlife observation.
3. Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all laboratory and field activities follow strict health, safety, and ethical standards.
- Maintain equipment, chemicals, and tools in a safe and organised manner.
- Train learners in safe handling of scientific materials and outdoor safety procedures.
4. Learner Engagement & Development
- Foster curiosity and inquiry by guiding learners to ask questions, design experiments, and interpret results.
- Support individual and group projects, including exhibitions, science fairs, and environmental campaigns.
- Provide feedback and monitor progress through reports and presentations.
5. Collaboration & Reporting
- Work with colleagues to connect science and environmental themes across the wider curriculum.
- Document learner progress and provide summaries for academic reporting.
- Contribute to institutional goals of sustainability and environmental responsibility.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Science, Environmental Studies, or related field.
- Teaching Qualification Quadrabay approved
- Experience in teaching, research, or environmental education.
- Strong knowledge of laboratory safety, experimental design, and ecological systems.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
- Ability to manage groups in both lab and outdoor environments.
- Certification in first aid and outdoor safety (preferred).
