Senior Legal Counsel – Aluminum Cable Manufacturing
Company Overview
Established in 1977 as a joint venture between Intersteel (Bahrain) and Olex Cables (Australia), the organization manufactures aluminium rods and overhead electrical transmission cables, serving a global market with high‑conductivity products. With over 40 years of success, it is a leading player in the aluminium and electrical transmission industry in the Kingdom of Bahrain, committed to industrial growth, advanced technology, and workforce development.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide proactive legal advice and support to senior management on all aspects of aluminium cable manufacturing operations.
- Draft, review, negotiate, and manage commercial contracts, including supply agreements, joint‑venture arrangements, EPC contracts, and distribution agreements.
- Ensure compliance with local Bahraini laws, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) regulations, and international trade standards relevant to the aluminium and electrical transmission sectors.
- Advise on regulatory matters, licensing, environmental, health & safety, and customs requirements for raw material import and finished‑goods export.
- Lead the development and implementation of corporate governance policies, corporate secretarial duties, and board‑level documentation.
- Manage dispute resolution, including arbitration, mediation, and litigation, coordinating with external counsel as needed.
- Support the HR function on employment law matters, employee contracts, policies, and investigations.
- Conduct legal risk assessments, advise on mitigation strategies, and maintain a robust legal‑compliance framework.
- Stay abreast of industry‑specific legislative changes and provide training to internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the Finance and Procurement teams on financial transactions, credit facilities, and insurance matters.
Essential Qualifications
- LL.B. (or equivalent) from a recognized university; LL.M. or additional qualifications in corporate or commercial law is a plus.
- Admission to practice law in Bahrain or a jurisdiction with which Bahrain has a reciprocal legal practice agreement.
- Demonstrated expertise in commercial contracts, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong knowledge of GCC legal frameworks, especially Bahrain’s commercial, labor, and environmental legislation.
- Excellent negotiation, drafting, and analytical skills.
- Fluent in English (both written and spoken); Arabic proficiency is highly desirable.
Desired Experience
- 6 to 15 years of progressive legal experience, preferably within heavy manufacturing, aluminium, or energy‑related industries.
- Track record of handling complex, high‑value commercial agreements and cross‑border transactions.
- Experience managing dispute resolution processes, including arbitration under ICC or GCC rules.
- Prior exposure to export‑import regulations, customs compliance, and product certification standards.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and provide strategic counsel to senior leadership.
