Role Description
The Laboratory Manager oversees all laboratory operations related to chemicals and building materials (cement, plaster, mortars, admixtures, coatings, etc.), ensuring products meet quality standards, industry regulations, and customer requirements. This role ensures smooth laboratory workflow, product compliance, team development, and provides technical support to R&D and production.
Responsibilities
- Laboratory Management & Supervision
- Oversee daily laboratory operations, testing schedules, and resource allocation.
- Ensure accurate testing of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products.
- Maintain proper calibration and servicing of laboratory equipment.
- Enforce safety standards, housekeeping, and compliance with ISO/OSHA guidelines.
- Quality Control & Assurance
- Implement and monitor QC/QA systems for all building material products.
- Approve and release materials that meet specifications.
- Investigate and resolve product non-conformities with corrective/preventive actions.
- Maintain quality documentation, test certificates, and traceability records.
- Standards & Compliance
- Ensure testing is carried out according to ASTM, EN, BS, ISO, or local standards.
- Prepare and manage laboratory audits for ISO/CE or other certifications.
- Stay updated with new building material regulations and integrate them into lab practice.
- Product Development & Technical Support
- Support R&D in developing and improving product formulations.
- Provide technical advice to production teams for process improvements.
- Assist sales/technical teams in resolving customer complaints through lab investigations.
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate chemists and lab technicians.
- Organize training programs to enhance staff testing and analytical skills.
- Foster a culture of accuracy, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Reporting & Coordination
- Prepare daily/weekly/monthly quality reports for management review.
- Liaise with production, procurement, and technical departments on material quality issues.
- Represent the lab in management meetings and external audits.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's/Master's in Chemistry, Material Science, Civil Engineering, or related field.
- Experience: 7–10 years in quality/laboratory management within chemicals, cement, or building materials industry.
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of ASTM, EN, BS, ISO standards for cementitious materials; hands-on experience with laboratory equipment (XRF, XRD, particle size analysis, compressive strength machines, etc.).
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and reporting skills.
- Soft Skills: Leadership, team management, strong communication and reporting ability, problem-solving and decision-making mindset.

- Accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results.
- Compliance with international and local quality standards.
- Reduction in product complaints and non-conformances.
- On-time delivery of reports and test results.
- Successful completion of audits and certifications.
- Team development and training effectiveness.
