UX Designer

We are hiring a UX Designer for Infrastructure and Developer Experience to work with the engineering teams at Canonical, playing a vital role in improving developer experience globally.

Our design team aims to turn complex, open-source software into efficient, intuitive products that can transform how complex systems are built and expand open source capabilities for enterprise IT. We seek a talented, technically-minded user experience designer who shares our ambitions.

This role reports to one of the Infrastructure and Developer Experience design managers or the Director.

Location: This role will be based remotely in the EMEA region.

1. Building tools that enable everyone to create their own cloud experiences (MAAS, LXD, MicroCloud, and Canonical k8s).
2. Collaborating with product managers and engineers to shape the future of developer experience.
3. Supporting complex products through design and UX heuristics.
4. Evolving and evangelizing design systems to ensure consistency and efficiency.
5. Understanding the broader scope of your work and its interconnected constraints.
6. Supporting our working groups to enable Canonical design's horizontal efforts.

1. An exceptional academic record from high school and university.
2. Bachelor's or equivalent in User Experience, Design, STEM, or a compelling alternative narrative.
3. Knowledge and passion for user experience, technology, and design.
4. Commitment to continuous learning and improvement—curious, flexible, scientific.
5. Result-oriented with a drive to complete work and celebrate success.
6. Confidence in user research practices.
7. Engagement with the latest design research and innovation.
8. Ability to travel internationally twice a year for up to two weeks for company events.

UX designers should be excellent communicators, comfortable working with engineers, designers, and executives. They must present their design positions clearly and precisely, connect their leadership to the company's strategic vision, and be excited to tackle complex design challenges.
