Position Title: Group Head of Operational Risk

Overview: The Group Head of Operational Risk will be responsible for leading and managing the operational risk framework across the organization. This senior leadership role will oversee the identification, assessment, monitoring, and mitigation of operational risks across all business units and functions. The role requires close collaboration with senior executives, business leaders, and risk teams to ensure operational risks are effectively managed and regulatory requirements and industry best practices are consistently met across all jurisdictions in which the organization operates.

Key Responsibilities:

Shaping and Embedding the Operational Risk Framework

• Design and execute the organization's operational risk framework to align with the broader risk appetite and strategic objectives.
• Drive the creation and continuous improvement of operational risk policies, standards, and guidelines that enable business units to proactively manage risks.
• Maintain the operational risk framework's alignment with evolving regulatory requirements, industry benchmarks, and leading practices. Areas of oversight include Information and Cybersecurity Risk, Fraud Risk and Investigations, Business Continuity and Crisis Management, Operational Resilience, Insurance and Outsourcing Risks, and Conduct Risk.

Proactive Risk Identification and Mitigation

• Lead the identification and evaluation of operational risks across all facets of the organization, encompassing technology, processes, people, and external threats.
• Establish mechanisms to detect emerging risks and vulnerabilities early, ensuring timely responses.
• Partner with business and functional teams to perform risk assessments and implement effective risk mitigation and control strategies.

Operational Risk Oversight and Insights

• Design and manage processes to monitor operational risks effectively across the organization.
• Build a robust risk reporting framework that delivers senior leadership and the Board clear, timely insights into risk exposures, trends, and incidents.
• Ensure operational risk events and associated losses are reported accurately and promptly.

Incident Management and Remediation

• Direct the investigation, root cause analysis, and resolution of operational risk incidents.
• Ensure all incidents are properly recorded and managed in accordance with regulatory expectations and internal protocols.

Strengthened Risk Controls and Mitigation

• Partner with business units to develop and deploy effective risk controls and mitigation plans across operations, technology, and critical business functions.
• Continuously evaluate control effectiveness and drive improvements where necessary to strengthen the organization's operational resilience.

Regulatory Engagement and Compliance

• Maintain oversight of regulatory developments relevant to operational risk and ensure full compliance with applicable standards (e.g., Basel III and local regulations).
• Act as a key liaison with regulators and auditors on operational risk matters, ensuring transparent and effective communication.
• Provide strategic advice to business leaders on meeting regulatory expectations related to operational risk.

Leadership and Risk Culture Development

• Lead, mentor, and develop the operational risk team to deliver on strategic risk management goals.
• Promote a strong risk-aware culture across all levels of the organization through collaboration and knowledge sharing.
• Drive cross-functional initiatives to enhance the overall risk culture and accountability.

Driving Continuous Enhancement of Risk Practices

• Champion the ongoing refinement of operational risk management practices, ensuring adaptability to evolving business environments, regulatory landscapes, and emerging threats.
• Lead initiatives to future-proof the organization's operational risk framework.

Strategic Stakeholder Engagement

• Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders across all jurisdictions to align operational risk management with the Group's strategic objectives.
• Support the achievement of business goals while ensuring risk remains within the Board-approved appetite and regulatory standards.

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field. A Master's degree or relevant certifications (e.g., FRM, CRISC, or ORM) is preferred.
• A minimum of 10-15 years of experience in operational risk management within the banking or financial services sector. * At least 5 years of experience in a senior leadership role, managing teams and influencing senior stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of banking operations, systems, and regulatory frameworks.
• Experience with risk management tools, software, and methodologies.
