Manama, Manama, Bahrain Canonical Full time
Overview

This is an opportunity to run a Professional Services team (Field Engineering) at Canonical, helping customers understand and implement open source solutions in public clouds and in their data centers. We work across cloud offerings from Ubuntu to virtualization, private cloud, Kubernetes, and open source solutions such as MLops platforms and data platforms. As we expand into new industries, we design and develop open source solutions to meet customer needs.

We believe Engineering Managers should be outstanding engineers who are comfortable troubleshooting technical issues and conducting technical presales conversations with customers. They contribute to project delivery but shape the team's direction, focus, and delivery more than individual technical contributions. We grow management skills and train engineers who are interested in soft skills to be managers.

Open source is transforming tech and enterprise compute. Our goal is to make open source easier, more reliable and more secure for deployment and development. We aim to be the provider of "most software to most companies." We select brilliant and motivated engineers to advance open source. Our engineering managers help teams achieve more than they thought possible and feel proud of the result.

The role

The Cloud Professional Services Manager at Canonical is the Field Engineering team's lead for cloud solutions architects who work directly with customers to design private and public cloud solutions that fit workload needs. The product portfolio includes on‑premise cloud solutions such as Openstack, MicroCloud and Ceph, as well as solutions deployable on‑premises or in public clouds such as Kubernetes, Kubeflow, Spark, PostgreSQL, etc. The team performs hands-on deployment, testing, and handover to support or managed services at project end. Managers and team members also participate in presales discussions to provide technical advice during the sales process.

A Cloud Professional Services Manager is responsible for line management and career guidance, developing engineering talent, representing the team technically, and driving collaboration with other teams and customers. You are also expected to actively participate in technical presales to help achieve quarterly goals.
