Academic Head Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Academic Head to join our team at Teach Away Inc.

Main Role:

The Academic Program Director will be responsible for enhancing the quality of teaching and learning in our school.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Liaise with teachers across all branches to ensure consistent pacing and implementation of academic programs.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate policies, programs, and curriculum activities that promote student educational development and achievement.
  • Provide support and professional development opportunities for staff members as needed to enhance their skills and improve instructional program quality.
  • Supervise teacher performance directly or indirectly through observations and evaluations, providing feedback for improvement.
  • Conceptualize the school's broad goals and plan accordingly to implement procedures and schedules that align with the total school program.
  • Enhance personnel skills by offering activities that facilitate the professional growth of school staff and improve the instructional program's quality.
  • Evaluate student progress in the instructional program by maintaining and analyzing up-to-date student data to inform instruction.
  • Foster organizational efficiency by maintaining inter-school system communication and seeking assistance from central office staff to improve performance.
  • Orient and assist new staff and students, providing opportunities for their input in the school program.
  • Monitor the quality of teaching and learning in the school, ensuring high standards are maintained.
  • Conduct teacher appraisals and observations to provide constructive feedback for improvement.
  • Analyze student data and track student and academic performance to identify areas for improvement.
  • Create and track remedies for low achievers and high achievers (Honor Roll) to ensure student success.
  • Supervise Heads of Departments (HODs) to ensure effective leadership and management within departments.
  • Follow up on lesson plan submissions to ensure compliance with school policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all teachers have the necessary resources and training to teach effectively, promoting student learning and engagement.
  • Monitor teachers regarding their teaching conduct and strategies, providing guidance for improvement.
  • Liaise with the examination officer regarding external board exams to ensure smooth administration and accurate results.
  • Play a role in the teaching of programs and in the formative and summative assessment of participants' work, promoting academic excellence.
  • Ensure appropriate benchmarking of programs through roles such as external examiner and course reviewer, and by leading, developing, and participating in local and national networks.
  • Represent the school in external events and professional associations, promoting the school's mission and values.
  • Investigate and follow up on any complaints regarding teachers, ensuring fair and timely resolution.
  • Work closely with school administration and teachers to raise school standards and ensure high-quality teaching practices.
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the administration, contributing to the school's overall success.
