The primary goal of our FFSPs is to achieve operational readiness, superior performance, member retention, and a reasonable quality of life for military personnel and their families. To achieve this, we require professionals who can provide vital home visiting services to expectant parents and families with children under three years of age.

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Family Support Specialist to assess and support families to reduce child abuse risk, offer parenting education, and connect families to essential community resources. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in social work or nursing and at least three years of experience in maternal/child health, child development, or public health.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and screen expectant parents and families with children under age 3 for child abuse risk using Navy NPS screening tools.
  • Provide home visiting services using the Nurturing Parenting Program for at-risk families.
  • Offer information and referral services to families not at risk for child abuse.
  • Report suspected child abuse or domestic violence to local authorities and Family Advocacy Representatives in compliance with Navy and state regulations.
  • Ensure all home visitation services are documented in the FFSMIS NPS Case Management System.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness exercises and implement emergency response plans as required.
  • Support public awareness campaigns like Ready Navy to enhance family preparedness.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work or nursing (or equivalent experience in related fields).
  • Minimum of three years of experience in maternal/child health, child development, social work, or public health.
  • Nurses must maintain current state licensure or certification.
  • Experience working with families, particularly those with young children, in a case management or health services role.
  • Knowledge of child abuse prevention and risk assessment strategies.
