Job OverviewA critical care physician, also known as an intensivist, is a specialist responsible for managing and caring for critically ill patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). This role involves high-level decision-making, rapid response to life-threatening situations, and close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to stabilize and support patients with severe medical conditions. Key Responsibilities
  • Provide continuous medical care to patients in the ICU with life-threatening conditions such as sepsis, multi-organ failure, respiratory distress, cardiac arrest, and post-operative complications.
  • Lead multidisciplinary rounds and collaborate with other specialists to coordinate patient care.
  • Perform and supervise critical care procedures, including intubation, central line insertion, arterial line placement, chest tube insertion, and ventilator management.
  • Monitor patient progress, interpret diagnostic results, and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
  • Ensure timely communication with patients' families regarding prognosis, treatment options, and goals of care.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and contribute to critical care documentation and audits.
  • Support and educate nursing staff, residents, and allied health professionals.
  • Participate in rapid response teams and code blue situations.
 Qualifications
  • Medical degree from a recognized institution.
  • Postgraduate qualification in internal medicine, anesthesia, pulmonology, or emergency medicine, with fellowship or certification in critical care medicine.
  • Valid license to practice in Bahrain.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience managing critically ill patients.
  • Proficient in the use of ICU technology and interventions.
  • Excellent clinical judgment, leadership, and communication skills.
