Kernel Engineering Lead

At our company, we're committed to innovation and excellence in software development. As a Kernel Engineering Lead, you'll play a critical role in driving the success of our Linux kernel projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead distributed teams of engineers in delivering high-quality Linux kernels for Ubuntu distribution
  • Own specific aspects of the Ubuntu Linux project, including working with partners to optimize kernels for execution environments, ensuring compatibility with diverse hardware platforms, and defining quality control standards
  • Collaborate with other teams at our organization, as well as the open-source community and commercial partners, to drive business growth and innovation
Qualifications:
  • Significant experience in programming languages such as C, with proficiency in Python, Golang, or other similar languages highly regarded
  • Substantial knowledge of operating system kernel internals and concepts, with Linux experience preferred but not essential
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing or leading software engineering teams
  • Ability to coordinate between multiple teams to achieve common goals and excellent communication skills
  • Familiarity with version control practices, ideally with git
  • Prior experience developing with software packaging formats, with direct Ubuntu/Debian/Snap experience highly regarded
  • Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills
  • Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events up to two weeks long
