Linux System Administration Lead

As a Senior Linux System Administrator with Clarendon Parker Bahrain, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and managing all aspects of Linux servers. This includes installing operating systems, performing timely patch updates, and testing before deployment to production.

The estimated time commitment for this task is 8 hours per week. You will also be responsible for updating operational documentation at least once a week for all Linux servers' configurations, which requires approximately 4 hours per week.

In addition to these tasks, you will perform system backups on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis for all servers (4 hours/week) and monitor, identify, and resolve production capacity, contention, and resource deficiencies (5 hours/week).

To optimize system administration tasks, you will research and recommend innovative ways to automate processes, leveraging company resources to provide economies of scale. This project has a delivery deadline of three months after joining the team and requires an estimated 3 hours/week.

You will prioritize weekly issues and address top faults proactively with minimal supervision (4 hours/week). Your responsibilities also include providing weekly and monthly reports related to infrastructure availability and other information reporting requirements (2 hours/week).

This role involves Key Performance Indicators such as:

  • Closing 95% of received issues/problems within defined SLA
  • Rolling out new releases, patches, and upgrades of Linux according to agreed timelines
  • Carrying out 80/20 Pareto analysis per quarter and defining top 10 issues
  • Maintaining minimum knowledge base entries yearly (30)
  • Updating 95% of all Linux servers operational documentation, configurations, procedures, and processes
  • Achieving an availability of Linux systems of 95% for internal applications and 99% for customer-facing Linux systems
  • Achieving an internal customer satisfaction index of 90%

Additionally, you are expected to achieve at least 3 improvements to section's operations and support procedures. For One-Off Projects, you will create operational documentation of all Linux servers.

Your proficiency in English is required, with a strong understanding of technical concepts. You must possess in-depth knowledge of advanced Linux operating systems (Red Hat or Ubuntu certification is a plus), programming, and shell scripting (e.g., PERL, Python, BASH, AWK, Reg Ex). Experience with telecom services (DNS, Mail, Web Hosting, NMS, Database) and networking (CCNA or CCNP is a plus) is also essential.

You will work closely with clients and colleagues, communicating technical issues effectively, analyzing complex problems, and developing project plans that align with organizational objectives.
