Summary of Job Duties:The Educational Talent Search Outreach Representative, under the direction of the Director of Educational Talent Search, encourages students in grades six through 12 to complete high school and enter college as defined by federal guidelines
Qualifications:

· Bachelor's degree required

· Background similar to students or experience with disadvantaged students required.

· Experience in dealing with people individually and in groups.

· Experience in relating to students from a variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

· Experience in financial aid either at the high school or college level preferred.

· Experience in the field of education or social services desirable.


Additional Information:

· Become knowledgeable and remain current regarding the following:

· The scope and purpose of the project proposal.

· Admission procedures and requirements, budgets, dormitory expenses, and majors offered at different colleges and universities.

· Existing scholarships, grants, and loan programs available at colleges and universities.

· College admission and financial aid applications.

· Monitor database record of all participants.

· Establish and maintain a close liaison with GED centers, college faculty and counselors, financial aid directors, and other college personnel.

· Maintain a participant workload with individual folders and computerized database records on each participant.

· Establish a high degree of rapport with potential college students.

· Actively identify, select, and enroll eligible participants in the ETS program.

· Meet with assigned participants once a month at assigned school.

· Help motivate participants to seek a post-secondary education.

· Provide high-quality career, academic, and personal advisement for participants.

· Assist program participants in completing and submitting admission and financial aid applications.

· Provide comprehensive assessment of each participant.

· Assist eligible participants in obtaining fee waivers for entrance exams and admission applications when necessary.

· Introduce, when needed, interested participants to local and out-of-state admission counselors, financial aid officers, and placement officers.

· Remain attentive to identification of new sources of student scholarships, grants, and loans.

· Conduct on-going follow-up during the year to note participant's progress in completing all required paperwork.

· Coordinate services with other agencies to provide each ETS participant with the best support possible.

· Attend workshops sponsored by the college for update of knowledge in areas including financial aid, college admissions, etc.

· Attend national, regional, and/or state educational and professional conferences as designated by the project director.

· Maintain records as the project director may designate.

· Assist in the training of new staff.

· Assist in the development of forms, brochures, etc.

· Assist in the coordination of activities such as career days, field trips, college nights, college representatives' visits, etc.

· Represent the ETS program by serving on public committees and speaking at engagements in the target area.

· Carry out all special projects or assignments designated by the project director.

· Develop and execute workshops beneficial to participants.

· Serve on College committees to promote the services offered to disadvantaged populations.

· Perform other duties as assigned.
