Role Overview

The Business Development Manager is responsible for owning and scaling merchant acquisition at Barakah. This is a hands-on, individual contributor role focused on sourcing, onboarding, and activating food partners with surplus inventory.

Key Responsibilities

Merchant Acquisition (Core Ownership)

  • Own the end-to-end merchant acquisition funnel: lead generation, outreach, pitching, negotiation, onboarding, and activation
  • Acquire food partners with surplus inventory (restaurants, cafés, bakeries, supermarkets, cloud kitchens, FMCG brands)
  • Clearly communicate Barakah's value proposition around food waste reduction and incremental revenue
  • Negotiate commercial terms and partnership structures aligned with unit economics

Activation & Performance

  • Ensure merchants are successfully activated and ready to go live on the platform
  • Work closely with Operations and Merchant Success to resolve onboarding or activation challenges
  • Track early performance and address supply gaps post-launch
  • Identify expansion and upsell opportunities within acquired accounts

Market & Growth Initiatives

  • Support city and vertical expansion by building a strong acquisition pipeline
  • Test new acquisition channels and partnership models
  • Monitor competitor activity and market trends within the FoodTech ecosystem

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Operations to align supply availability with demand forecasts
  • Work with Marketing on merchant-facing campaigns, promotions, and launch initiatives
  • Share structured merchant feedback with Product to improve tools and workflows
  • Coordinate with Finance on deal structures, commissions, and revenue impact
