Job Description – Bakery Commis
Location:
Chestnut Bakery & Lunchroom, Bahrain
Reports to:
Head Pastry Chef / Sous Chef
Position Summary
The Bakery Commis supports the pastry and bakery team in preparing, baking, and presenting high-quality breads, pastries, and baked goods in line with Chestnut Bakery & Lunchroom standards. This entry-level position is ideal for individuals passionate about baking, eager to develop technical skills, and motivated to grow within a professional artisan bakery environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in daily production of breads, viennoiseries, pastries, and other baked goods.
- Follow recipes, weights, and baking procedures accurately to maintain consistency and quality.
- Prepare and scale ingredients for doughs, batters, fillings, and toppings.
- Support in shaping, proofing, baking, and finishing products under chef supervision.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in all bakery and prep areas.
- Ensure proper storage and labeling of ingredients and finished products.
- Assist with mise en place and ensure readiness for service periods.
- Comply with all hygiene, sanitation, and food safety standards (HACCP).
- Assist in receiving and organizing deliveries and maintaining stock rotation (FIFO).
- Communicate effectively with team members to ensure smooth daily operations.
Experience
- Diploma or certification in Baking or Pastry Arts preferred.
- 1–2 years of experience in a bakery, pastry kitchen, or café environment an advantage.
- Basic understanding of baking techniques, dough handling, and oven operations.
- Passion for artisanal baking and willingness to learn advanced pastry techniques.
Skills
- Team player with a positive attitude and eagerness to learn.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and consistency.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced production environment.
- Flexibility to assist in both bread and pastry production when required.
