Location:
Chestnut Bakery & Lunchroom, Bahrain

Reports to:
Head Chef / Sous Chef

Position Summary:

The Kitchen Commis supports the culinary team in preparing, cooking, and presenting dishes according to Chestnut Bakery & Lunchroom standards. This entry-level role is ideal for someone passionate about food, eager to learn, and motivated to grow in a professional kitchen environment.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist chefs in daily food preparation and cooking tasks.
  • Follow recipes, portioning, and plating instructions accurately.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in all kitchen areas.
  • Wash, peel, chop, and prepare ingredients as directed.
  • Support with mise en place and ensure readiness for service.
  • Handle and store food products properly to maintain freshness and safety.
  • Ensure all hygiene, sanitation, and food safety standards (HACCP) are followed.
  • Assist in receiving and storing deliveries in an organized and safe manner.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to ensure smooth kitchen operations.

Experience:

  • Diploma or certification in Culinary Arts or equivalent is an advantage.
  • 1–2 years of experience in a professional kitchen, bakery, or café preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of cooking methods, kitchen equipment, and hygiene standards.
  • Passion for learning and developing culinary skills.

Skills:

  • Team player with a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Good communication and time-management skills.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining quality.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility to assist in different kitchen sections when needed.
