Key Areas Of Responsibility

• The Engine Rating reports to the Chief Engineer.
• The Engine Rating contributes to ensuring the vessel is always available to be deployed in a safe and efficient manner, as directed by the Chief Engineer and always in accordance with HMS policies/procedures and applicable local legislation.
• Perform all work tasks safely; ask the Chief Engineer for guidance if in doubt before starting work.
• Propose initiatives to raise onboard safety levels.
• Participate actively in safety training and drills onboard.
• Perform duties assigned by the Chief Engineer related to all tasks on the vessel.
• Perform maintenance and housekeeping duties on deck, in the engine room, or accommodation as instructed by the Chief Engineer.
• The Engine Rating has the obligation to stop work if a task is unsafe (by personal judgment) and to inform the Master. Deck Hands must know the Stop Work procedure, including 'Take 5'. 'Stop Work' and 'Take 5' are simple measures Svitzer uses to prevent personal injuries. The Master is responsible for instruction.
• Know the procedures for proactive and near-miss reporting for occurrences that could cause injury, illness, pollution, or damage, and report them to the Chief Engineer or Master. The Chief Engineer is responsible for instruction.
• Comply with regulations of the company's safety management system.
• Induct visitors, employees, and other authorized persons to access the vessel when a Master, Deck Officer, or Chief Engineer/Engineer is unavailable.

Learning Descriptions
Knowledge and Qualifications:

• III/4 - Eng Watch Rating – Unlimited
• Basic Safety Training (STCW A-VI/1)
• Security Training for Seafarers with Designated Security Duties A-VI/6
• Valid Seafarer Medical

Training/Special Skills Required

• Understanding of English language preferred.
• At least 24 months of sea time as an Oiler.
