Overview

Emergency Vehicle Technician II trained specifically to maintain and repair firefighting equipment and emergency vehicles, including fire engines, tenders, tankers, rescue, flight line assets, foam systems, air compressor, dry chemical systems, hazmat response vehicles, and utility vehicles, all known as firefighting apparatus. Perform master mechanic level duties as required. Coordinate and perform highly skilled mechanics' work. Maintain various types of emergency and fleet vehicles to include equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair complex mechanical issues.
  • Perform preventative maintenance work.
  • Participate in ordering fleet parts.
  • Prepare fleet maintenance records and documentation.
  • Assist in maintaining shop facilities and equipment.
  • Perform other mechanical duties as needed.
  • Provide customer support and quality assurance.
  • Maintain service logs and records of fire truck apparatuses.
  • Keep tools, equipment, and work area clean, organized, and in good condition.
  • Provide 24/7 on-call fleet maintenance support for the assigned shift.
  • Maintain operational equipment assets.
  • Lead work efforts, train, and mentor subordinate EVT personnel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma; one year related experience may substitute for one year of education if a degree is required. Certifications include:
  • Emergency Vehicle Technician LV I & II, meeting NFPA 1071 standards.
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) T2 through T6.
  • EVT Exam F1 – F6.
  • Must be CAC eligible and/or able to obtain a CAC.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to obtain a U.S. Government Motor Vehicle Operator's License and host nation Driver's License.
  • Commercial Driver's license preferred.
  • Ability to operate vehicles with a manual transmission.
    • Experience: 5-10 years of progressive professional experience on fire trucks, firefighting apparatus, or heavy transport vehicles within a large city fire department, with progression to EVT LV II.
      • Skills: Technological and electrical skills to diagnose, repair, and maintain specialized firefighting equipment; mastery of maintenance techniques, practices, procedures, test equipment, and documentation; understanding of mechanical principles related to power transmission, braking systems, engine electrical systems, and hydraulics; knowledge of NFPA standards for fire apparatus; systematic troubleshooting skills; ability to set professional standards for the team.
        • Working Conditions: Capable of working in extreme weather conditions exceeding 120°F, indoors and outdoors, in harsh environments including industrial settings.
          • Physical Requirements: Medium work exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally, 30 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly; use of PPE as required; compliance with safety regulations.
