Background:
Operational Risk Management (ORM) independently assesses significant operational risks, challenges, and drives business action to effectively manage those risks. Citi Bahrain comprises of multiple business and functions including BCMA, TTS, GSG, CCB, Markets and O&T.

Objective:
This position will be part of a high caliber team supporting the onshore & offshore teams, towards credible operational risk management challenge function and operational risk oversight.

**Responsibilities**:

- Independently assess’ risks and drive actions to address the root causes that persistently lead to operational risk losses by challenging both historical and proposed practices.
- Conducting risk reviews of significant operational events to determine the fact pattern, control gaps and working with relevant businesses and functions implement remediation to avoid a repeat event.
- Analysing operational risk data (typically losses, metrics, or assessment results) to identify areas of excessive risk and to ensure past mitigation efforts are having the desired effect.
- Challenge and drive business action to effectively manage the significant operational risk events.
- Challenge the MCA, Quarterly Risk Assessment (QRA) ratings and Annual Risk Assessment (ARA) process.
- Understand and implement local regulatory requirements related to ORM.
- Has the ability to operate with a limited level of direct supervision.
- Acts as SME to senior stakeholders and /or other team members. Develops and maintains relationships across the business users and Lines of Defense to better understand and deliver customer requirements by responding to changes in the internal and external business environment
- Develop strong relationships with regional businesses and country leads by providing value added advisory and independent oversight.
- Participate in ICAAP exercise.

Experience and Skills
- 10 + years of work experience in the financial services industry, with exposure to operational risk and/or internal control concepts
- A strong knowledge of Bahrain Operational Risk Regulations is a must (Central Bank of Bahrain), ideally a history of interaction with regulators on the components of the operational risk framework.
- A strong familiarity of financial products and processes businesses present in the country with strong focus on the TTS business.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to sway opinion and negotiate successfully at a senior level.
- Confident and concise verbal communications skills, including the ability to influence and negotiate with senior members of staff.
- Experience of managing multiple tasks, with variable stakeholders and deadlines.
- The capacity to organise and prioritize workload within a complex environment with competing and subtle resource demands
- Excellent knowledge of banking practices and global functions, as well as solid knowledge of related local legal and regulatory requirements.
- Fluent in English. Arabic proficiency an advantage but not essential.
- Strong analytic skills applicable across all businesses and products with outstanding attention to detail.
- Strategic and goal-oriented focus.
- Superior ability to simplify and explain complex issues, drive conclusions. Strong in details without getting lost in them or losing focus on big picture.
- Unwavering commitment to co-operative and collaborative working.

**Education**:

- Bachelor’s/University degree, Master’s degree preferred
- ORM specific certification is a plus
