Bakery Job Description

The primary responsibility of this role is to oversee the preparation and presentation of high-quality bread and pastries.

This includes working closely with the Pastry Chef and kitchen team to maintain rigorous standards in all aspects of production.

Key duties include:

  1. Preparing a wide range of breads, pastries, and other baked goods to meet customer expectations.
  2. Measuring and mixing ingredients into dough according to established recipes.
  3. Monitoring production schedules to ensure timely delivery of products.
  4. Providing direction to kitchen helpers, including commis, kitchen attendants, and stewards.
  5. Communicating effectively with superiors about any issues or concerns.
Daily Responsibilities

On a daily basis, this role involves:

  1. Working with the Pastry Chef and kitchen team to maintain high standards in the quality of bread and pastries both as to its preparation and its presentation. A baker is responsible for making a wide range of breads, pastries, and other baked goods.
  2. Duties also include measuring and mixing ingredients into dough according to a recipe.
  3. As bakers normally work according to tight production schedules, it is important for them to constantly check that the correct quantities are being produced for each order they are in charge of.
  4. Provides direction to the Kitchen helpers, including Commis, Kitchen Attendants and Stewards.
  5. Communicates to his/her superior any difficulties, guest or internal customer comment and other relevant information.
  6. Establishes and maintains effective employee working relationships.
  7. To observe all Food Hygiene and Health and Safety policy.
  8. To assist the Pastry Chef, to check the completeness of all food and kitchen equipment sent to each function.
  9. To assist the Pastry Chef to check the completeness of all suppliers deliveries and the correctness of their invoices.
  10. Closing liaison with the Event Manager with regard to service and timings.
  11. To ensure that all completed jobs are fully checked off before it leaves the unit.
  12. To work closely with Head Chef and other chefs at each event to ensure that the function runs smoothly.
  13. To set out, maintain and monitor high standards of baking and presentation.
  14. Cleans and re-sets his/her working area and ensuring the venue kitchen is left spotlessly clean & tidy.
