Key Responsibilities:

The Academic Head will be responsible for the following key areas:

  • Policies, Programs, and Curriculum: Develop and implement policies, programs, and curriculum activities that promote student educational development and achievement.
  • Teacher Support: Provide support and professional development opportunities for staff members to enhance their skills and performance.
  • Student Performance: Monitor the quality of teaching and learning in the school, identifying areas for improvement and implementing strategies to address them.
  • Teacher Evaluation: Conduct teacher appraisals and observations, providing constructive feedback and guidance to support teacher growth and development.
  • Student Data Analysis: Analyze student data and track student and academic performance, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
  • Remedies and Support: Create and track remedies for low achievers and high achievers, ensuring equitable access to resources and support.
  • Departmental Management: Supervise Heads of Departments (HODs), providing guidance and support to ensure effective departmental management.
  • Lesson Plan Submissions: Follow up on lesson plan submissions, ensuring compliance with school policies and procedures.
  • Teacher Resources: Ensure that all teachers have the necessary resources and training to teach effectively, including ongoing professional development opportunities.
  • Examination Officer Liaison: Liaise with the examination officer regarding external board exams, ensuring accurate and reliable results.
  • Program Teaching and Assessment: Play a role in the teaching of programs and in the formative and summative assessment of participants' work, ensuring alignment with school policies and procedures.
  • Benchmarking and Networking: Ensure appropriate benchmarking of programs through roles such as external examiner and course reviewer, and by leading, developing, and participating in local and national networks.
  • School Representation: Represent the school in external events and professional associations, promoting the school's reputation and interests.
  • Complaint Resolution: Investigate and follow up on any complaints regarding teachers, ensuring fair and prompt resolution.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with school administration and teachers to raise school standards and ensure high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment practices.
  • Administrative Tasks: Perform any other tasks assigned by the administration, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to the school's goals and objectives.
