The role is responsible for autonomously managing and supervising all legal matters of the company, including overseeing the workload and performance of the legal (commercial/contractual) team within the Legal & Regulatory Department (LRD). The role ensures quality control and the continuous enhancement of both technical and soft skills. It provides comprehensive legal support to all internal stakeholders, with a particular focus on the procurement function, and assists the Director of Legal & Regulatory Affairs (D/LRA) in managing departmental operations such as budgeting, engaging external legal counsel, and contributing to regulatory submissions. Additionally, the role liaises with other licensed operators and third-party suppliers to support the company's legal and business objectives.

Responsibilities :

Strategic

  • Identify strategic initiatives for the sub-function and contribute to the overall strategic initiatives for the function aligned with the Organization Strategy.
  • Drive the strategic initiatives for the sub-function. Monitor performance against the set KPIs.

Financial

  • Assist the department head in preparing the budget for the department.
  • Monitor and track adherence to the approved budget and highlight deviations.

Operations

  • Manage and supervise all legal matters of the company, including general legal advisory, legal projects, contractual matters, litigation, arbitration, and pre-litigation activities.
  • Manage and supervise the in-house legal team, including task assignment, workflow management, and quality control in drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and concluding contracts. Develop new contractual templates and enhance the team's skills.
  • Provide commercially oriented strategic advice on supplier relationships and contractual frameworks, implementing these in contractual documentation.
  • Handle complex legal projects and contracts independently, collaborating with internal stakeholders.
  • Develop and update standard contractual templates reflecting best practices and protecting the company's interests.
  • Support the procurement department and other business units on legal matters.
  • Liaise with external legal counsel or consultants, managing litigation, arbitration, or pre-litigation issues.
  • Engage with peers from other licensed operators and third-party suppliers on legal and contractual matters, including negotiations.
  • Assist D/LRD in managing departmental operations, including budget and external legal engagements.

People

  • Liaise with HR to fulfill hiring requirements and ensure adequate staffing.
  • Identify training needs and nominate team members for development programs.
  • Ensure timely completion of performance management reviews.
  • Share knowledge of the telecom industry and business trends.
  • Participate actively in employee engagement surveys.
  • Develop training and development plans for staff and motivate the team to meet business needs.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in law, preferably LLM, possibly LLB or equivalent from other jurisdictions. Must have studied abroad (at least a one-year law study in LLM or LLB program).

Experience:

Over 10 years of post-qualification experience.

Experience managing a team of lawyers at the level of head of legal or similar, or managing associates, counsel, or equivalent at a law firm.

Proven experience in managing and handling complex legal matters independently for at least 5 years, focusing on commercial, contractual negotiations, M&A, technology, IT, litigation, and external legal management.

Experience from a reputable law firm is advantageous.
